【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat, cools blood and detoxifies. Treats hot asthma, hematuria, hot furuncles and carbuncles.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 1 to 2 liang; or mash into juice. For external use: mash the juice and apply it on the affected area.

【Note】 "Depei Materia Medica" states: "It is forbidden to use if you have a cold, weak stomach or spleen, or if you have swelling or toxins in the yin part."

[Additional prescription] ① Treat measles, lung heat, phlegm and asthma: 2 qian of fresh banana root, 1 liang of purslane, and 8 qian of June frost. Mash the mixture together, squeeze out the juice, simmer until slightly warm, remove the foam and take orally. (Quanzhou Materia Medica)

[Clinical Application] Treatment of epidemic encephalitis B: Take fresh banana roots, peel them, wash them, mash them and squeeze out the juice. Take 1000 to 1500 ml of juice daily, divided into multiple doses, a small amount each time, until you do not vomit after taking it. You can also add honey for flavoring. Nasogastric feeding can be used for comatose patients. Generally, the body temperature will gradually decrease after taking it for 3 to 4 days. When the body temperature stabilizes at around 37.5℃, the dosage can be gradually reduced and the medication can be stopped after the symptoms are basically gone. It has been observed that after taking banana root juice, patients first experienced diarrhea and increased urine volume, followed by a rapid drop in high fever and improvement in their condition. There is no disadvantage of dehydration due to increased water excretion. By solving the problem of high fever, the dangerous symptoms such as convulsions and respiratory failure were avoided or alleviated, and the condition was transformed. It is normal to have more diarrhea after taking banana root juice; if there is no diarrhea and abdominal distension occurs, the fever will be difficult to reduce and the condition will worsen. Therefore, while taking banana root juice, avoid taking hibernation pills and atropine-type drugs to avoid inhibiting gastrointestinal motility and causing abdominal distension. If there is no diarrhea after taking the medicine, you can combine it with enema or oral administration of 1 to 2 coins of Yuanming powder, twice a day. When using this method, physical cooling should still be used to quickly control high fever. 117 cases were treated, 110 were cured, 1 had sequelae, and 6 died.
