Progesterone to maintain pregnancy

Progesterone to maintain pregnancy

Progesterone is a natural progestin secreted by the corpus luteum of the ovary. In the human body, it has a relatively significant effect on the endometrium stimulated by estrogen in the body. It is necessary to better maintain pregnancy. But can women see such good results when using progesterone to maintain pregnancy? Let’s take a look at the relevant introduction.

The effect of progesterone in preserving pregnancy is still very obvious, but it is mainly used on girls with habitual miscarriage, or people with dysmenorrhea and excessive semen and blood. If taken orally, insufficient progesterone may cause serious diseases. Therefore, there are many things to pay attention to when using it.

In the later stages of the menstrual cycle, the glands in the uterine mucosa grow, the uterus becomes congested, and the endometrium thickens, preparing for the implantation of the fertilized egg. After the fertilized egg is implanted, it produces the placenta, reduces the excitability of the pregnant uterus, inhibits its activity, and allows the fetus to grow safely.

It closes the cervix, reduces and thickens the mucus, making it difficult for sperm to penetrate; in large doses, it has a negative feedback effect on the hypothalamus, inhibiting the secretion of pituitary gonadotropin and producing an ovulation-inhibiting effect. This product can be absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract when taken orally, and the blood concentration reaches the peak after 1 to 3 hours. It is inactivated due to rapid metabolism, so it is generally administered by injection, but sublingual or vaginal or rectal administration is also effective. It is rapidly absorbed through the vaginal mucosa and reaches peak blood concentration after 2 to 6 hours. The t1/2 is only a few minutes, and the metabolites include pregnanediol and its glucuronic acid conjugate, which are excreted in the urine.

The use of progesterone as a pregnancy-preserving drug actually has another effect, which is that it can promote breast development in the body. Progesterone works together with estrogen in the body to promote breast development in women and prepare them for milk production. However, when we use it, we must use it scientifically under the guidance of a doctor.
