Flowers are solitary in leaf axils, 12 to 15 mm in diameter; pedicels are usually longer than petioles, weak, and sparsely hairy; sepals are ovate or lanceolate, and sparsely hairy like bracteoles; bracteoles are broad, usually longer than sepals, triangular-obovate, 3 to 5-lobed, rarely entire; petals are yellow, obovate. The receptacle is spherical or oblong, bright red, covered with countless small red achenes, and surrounded by persistent calyx. Flowering period is April. The fruit ripens in May.
