[Source] This product is a medicinal material commonly used by the Mongolian ethnic group. It is the dried mature fruit of Choerospondias axillaris (Roxb.) Burtt et Hill, a plant of the Anacardiaceae family. The fruits are harvested in autumn when they are ripe, impurities are removed and they are dried.

[Properties] This product is oval or nearly oval in shape, 2 to 3 cm long and 1.4 to 2 cm in diameter. The surface is dark brown or tan, slightly shiny, with irregular wrinkles, and a pedicel mark at the base. The flesh is thin, brown, hard and crisp. The nucleus is nearly oval, yellow-brown, with 5 (occasionally 4 or 6) obvious small holes at the top, each containing a seed. Odorless, sour taste.

【Identification】 (1) The powder of this product is brown. The stone cells of the endocarp are spherical, oval, fusiform, rectangular or irregular in shape, some are elongated and fibrous or branched, with a diameter of 14 to 72 μm and a length of 25 to 294 μm, thick walls, obvious pores and grooves, and the cell cavity contains light yellow-brown or yellow-brown substances. The fibers of the endocarp are lignified, with upper and lower layers arranged in a criss-cross pattern, with thick or slightly thick walls, and some cell cavities containing yellow-brown substances. The cells of the exocarp are polygonal in surface view, with brown material in the cell cavity; in cross section, the cells are rectangular, radially elongated, with keratinized and thickened outer and radial walls. The thin-walled cells of the mesocarp contain cluster crystals of calcium oxalate and a few prismatic crystals. The cluster crystals are 17 to 42 μm in diameter, and the prismatic crystals are rhombic or irregular in shape, 10 to 48 μm long and 7 to 27 μm in diameter.
