The efficacy and function of Dawujincao

Big Wujincao, the name of a traditional Chinese medicine. It is the whole herb, root or rhizome of Asarum pulchellum Hemsl., a plant of the Aristolochiaceae family. Distributed in Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan. It has the effects of warming the lungs and eliminating phlegm, dispelling wind and dampness, regulating qi and relieving pain. It is commonly used for cold cough, rheumatic joint pain, stomachache, abdominal pain, and toothache.

Used for cold cough, rheumatic joint pain, stomachache, abdominal pain, and toothache.

Related Combinations

1. For the treatment of stomachache and abdominal pain: Grind equal amounts of cyperus rotundus root and purple sand root (Apiaceae family) into powder, take 3-6g each time, 3 times a day with warm water. 2. To treat tuberculosis: 30g each of Maowujin, Mabuqi and Baisikuaiwa, 1.5g of Scolopendra subspinipes, and 500ml of white wine, soak for 1 day. Take 3 times a day, 5 ml each time. (Hubei Chinese Herbal Medicine)

3. To treat toothache: chew the rhizome of (Big Black Gold Grass) and hold it in the toothache area. (Shennongjia Chinese Herbal Medicine)

Dosage

For internal use: decoction, 1-5g.

Medicinal properties

The rhizome is irregularly cylindrical, about 50 cm long, about 3 mm in diameter, and has many branches; gray-brown with twisted fine wrinkles, internodes 0.5-2 cm long, yellow-white in cross section, and has multiple fibrous roots. When the leaves are unfolded, they are ovate-cordate or round-ovate, 5-8cm long, 5-9.5cm wide, with acute or acuminate apex, cordate base, and dense hairs on both sides; the petiole is 10-20cm long and hairy. Some have flowers, purple-brown.
