This plant can also bloom, and the flowers it blooms are very beautiful, and they grow in clusters. This is a very common Chinese medicine, which is generally used for moxibustion. So what are the effects and functions of moxibustion Schisandra chinensis?

【Plant morphology】Deciduous woody vine. The twigs are brown and angular, and the whole plant is almost hairless. The leaves are simple, alternate, with petioles 2 to 4.5 cm long. The leaves are obovate, broadly ovate or elliptical, 5 to 10 cm long, 3 to 5 cm wide, with acute or acuminate apex, cuneate base, and glandular serrations on the margins. The upper surface is smooth and glabrous, and the lower surface has short soft hairs on the veins when young. The flowers are unisexual and dioecious, solitary or clustered in leaf axils, with slender and weak pedicels, 6 to 9 perianths, milky white or pink, male flowers with 5 stamens, female flowers with elliptical pistils, 17 to 40 free carpels, imbricately arranged on the receptacle. In the later stage of flowering, the receptacle gradually lengthens, and the fruit forms a spike-shaped aggregate fruit when ripe. Berries, fleshy, about 5 mm in diameter, purple-red. The seeds are kidney-shaped, light orange and shiny. The flowering period is from May to June, and the fruiting period is from August to September.

[Origin Distribution] Grown under mixed woods on hillsides, often entwined around other plants. It is distributed in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia and Shaanxi, and is mainly produced in Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning.

[Harvesting and processing] The fruits are picked when they are ripe in autumn, dried in the sun or steamed and then dried in the sun, and the stems and impurities are removed.

[Properties of the medicinal material] This product is irregularly spherical or oblate, with a diameter of 5 to 8 mm. The surface is red, purple or dark red, wrinkled and oily; some surfaces are black and red or have "white frost". The flesh is soft, with 1 to 2 kidney-shaped seeds, a shiny brown-yellow surface, and a thin and brittle seed coat. The flesh has a slight odor and tastes sour. After the seeds are crushed, they have an aroma and taste spicy and slightly bitter.

[Nature and flavor and meridians] Warm in nature, sour and sweet in taste. It enters the lung meridian, heart meridian and kidney meridian.

[Effects and Functions] Astringent, replenishing Qi and promoting body fluid, nourishing the kidney and calming the mind. It belongs to the category of astringent drugs, which can astringe the lungs and intestines.

[Clinical application] The dosage is 2-6 grams, decocted in water for oral administration; ground into powder, 1-3 grams each time; boiled into a paste; or made into pills or powder. For external use: appropriate amount, grind into powder and mix with other ingredients; or decoct in water for washing. It is used to treat chronic cough, weak asthma, nocturnal emission, spermatorrhea, enuresis and frequent urination, chronic diarrhea, spontaneous sweating and night sweats, thirst due to loss of body fluid, internal heat and thirst, palpitations and insomnia.

[Pharmacological Research] It can promote the body's immune function; anti-oxidation and anti-aging; protect the liver and induce liver drug metabolizing enzymes; relieve cough and expectorant, and have anti-tumor effects; lower blood sugar; strengthen the heart; enhance the body's adaptability; have anti-ulcer and anti-nephropathy effects; and have antibacterial effects. It is reported that intravenous injection of Schisandra chinensis decoction has a respiratory stimulating effect on normal rabbits, deepening and accelerating absorption, and can counteract the respiratory depressant effect of morphine. The tincture also has the same effect.

[Chemical composition] The fruit contains a variety of lignans and volatile oils, which have an effect on the median lethal dose of central nervous system stimulants pentylenetetrazol and strychnine. The seed kernel contains schisandrins A, B, C, schisandrin A and schisandrin B[17]. It also contains schisandrin A, gomisin A, gomisin D, gomisin E, gomisin N, gomisin O, deangelicayl gomisin B, isoschisandrin, epigomisin O, schisandrin ester A, a-phellandrene, nerolidol, crotonyl gomisin and other ingredients.

[Contraindications] Do not take this medicine if there is external pathogenic factors, internal heat, or if you have just started a cough or measles.
