1. Treatment of acute icteric hepatitis

It can be made into two decoctions, 10% and 50%, to be taken three times a day after meals. It can clear away heat and detoxify, cool blood and reduce fire, so it can treat jaundice hepatitis, and has certain effects on broad bean yellow, high fever caused by cold, bacillary dysentery, nephritis edema, epistaxis, mouth and tongue ulcers, mastitis, and sores and swelling.

2. Treat sprains and contusions, and have significant effects on sprains, swelling and pain

(1) Grind an appropriate amount of Gardenia into powder, add vinegar and taro powder, cook into a paste, and apply to the affected area.

(2) Grind an appropriate amount of Gardenia into powder, add Radix Rehmanniae, pound it into a paste, and apply it to the affected area.

(3) Grind an appropriate amount of Gardenia into powder, add flour and cook into a paste, then apply to the affected area.

(4) Grind an appropriate amount of Gardenia into powder and mix with wine to apply to the affected area

(5) Grind appropriate amounts of Gardenia root and Rhubarb into powder, mix with alcohol and apply to the affected area. Change the powder every 3 to 5 days. If swelling is obvious, change it every other day. However, it should be noted that it should not be used by people with fractures, and those with dislocations should first be corrected before use. If there is limb paralysis, physical therapy and acupuncture treatment should be combined. The average time for pain to disappear was 30 hours, the average time for swelling to subside was 2.5 days, the average time for hematoma absorption was 7.8 days, and the average time for functional recovery was 5.1 days.

3. Used to stop bleeding

It is effective in treating vomiting blood, epistaxis, bloody dysentery, bleeding, hematuria, bloody stranguria, blood stasis, typhoid fever, fever, headache, hernia, and burns. Take 100 grams of gardenia powder, mix it with 20% Mingli liquid to make a paste, dry it and grind it into No. 100 fine powder, add appropriate amount of benzoic acid, and sterilize it under high pressure for later use. For general upper gastrointestinal bleeding, take 3 to 6 grams each time, 3 times a day. Of course, it can also be used as a local hemostatic agent. It is particularly effective in treating nosebleeds and hematuria.

4. Other functions

It has certain therapeutic effects on toothache caused by wind and fire, high fever caused by cold, and red eyes, because it is bitter, cold in nature, non-toxic, and the root tastes light. It can be taken internally to clear away heat, dampness, promote diuresis and relieve restlessness, but its specific clinical application is still unclear.
