The leaves are papery or nearly membranous, arranged in whorls of 6-8, rarely 4-5, ribbon-oblanceolate or oblong-oblanceolate, 1-5.5 cm long, 1-7 mm wide, with a needle-like convex tip at the apex, gradually narrowing at the base, often with closely attached spiny hairs on both sides, often wilt-like, often curled when dry, 1-veined, nearly sessile.

Cymes axillary or terminal, few to many flowers, small flowers, 4-flowered, with slender pedicels; calyx hooked hairs, calyx rim nearly truncate; corolla yellow-green or white, rotate, lobes oblong, less than 1 mm long, arranged in valvate; ovary hairy, style 2-lobed to the middle, stigma capitate.

The fruit is dry, with 1 or 2 nearly spherical mericarps, up to 5.5 mm in diameter, swollen, densely covered with hooked hairs, and a straight pedicel up to 2.5 cm long and relatively thick, each with 1 flat-convex seed. The flowering period is from March to July, and the fruiting period is from April to November. This wild plant can be used as medicine and is a Chinese medicinal material with good effects.
