What are the effects of deer antler?

Deer antlers are rich in nutrients and proper consumption is extremely beneficial to the body. First of all, it is manifested in the cardiovascular aspect, and has miraculous effects on arrhythmia; in addition, it can strengthen the body, improve the patient's sleep quality, etc., and minimize fatigue; and finally, it has an effect on trauma and can enhance the regeneration function to a certain extent.

1. Effects on cardiovascular system: Deer antler essence extracted from the antlers of Siberian spotted deer can lower blood pressure, reduce heart amplitude, slow heart rate, and dilate peripheral blood vessels in large doses. Moderate doses cause a significant increase in isolated cardiac activity, a larger amplitude of cardiac contraction, faster heart rate, and increased output; its cardiotonic effect is particularly significant on a weak heart, and it can restore the rhythm of an isolated heart with irregular rhythm, while strengthening and accelerating cardiac contraction. When taken orally, deer antler essence can make the pulse fuller, blood pressure higher, and heart sounds stronger for chronic circulatory disorders accompanied by hypotension.

2. Strengthening effect: Deer antler essence is a good whole body tonic. It can enhance the body's working capacity, improve sleep and appetite, and reduce muscle fatigue. Deer antler can significantly increase the oxygen consumption of the brain, liver, kidney and other tissues of rats. Adding 25% or 50% velvet antler to feed can make mice gain weight faster. For healthy and mature rabbits, after taking a certain amount of velvet antler powder orally or injecting velvet antler extract, after a certain period of time, the red blood cells, hemoglobin and reticulocytes all increase. Using a larger dose can promote the regeneration of blood cells, especially red blood cells. Continuous oral administration of 0.4, 0.5, and 2.0 g/kg/day of red deer antler for 14 to 15 days significantly increased the body weight of rats. Oral consumption of deer antler extract has a certain strengthening effect on general weakness, long-term illness and fatigue.

3. Sex hormone-like effects: Red deer antler slices were used to make a physiological saline solution, and the prostate and seminal vesicle weighing method of testicular removal rats and mice and the vaginal smear method of ovariectomized mice were tested. The results showed that it had no androgen or estrogen-like effects, and it could not cause blood spots to appear on the ovaries of non-pregnant rabbits, nor could it induce ejaculation in male toads. Therefore, it does not have gonadotropin-like effects. Japanese scholars injected Soviet-made deer antler tincture subcutaneously into rats and measured the weight of the animals' prostate and seminal vesicles. The intensity of its effect was between that of testosterone propionate and the control group. Giving 1 ml/100 g of velvet antler extract to castrated male mice did not have the above effects.

4. Effect on trauma: Deer antler can enhance the regeneration process of ulcers and wounds that are difficult to heal for a long time or have poor healing properties for a short time, promote the healing of fractures, and affect the metabolism of nitrogen and carbohydrates. Deer antler extract can improve abnormal brain waves, glycolysis (glycolysis in the cervical spinal cord is inhibited when injured), and enzyme activity (the activity of hexophosphokinase, glycerophosphokinase, and GPT in the cervical spinal cord decreases when injured) in rabbits with head and neck injuries; it has no effect on the tricarboxylic acid cycle in vitro, but can promote glycolysis and increase enzyme consumption in spinal cord nerve homogenate.

5. Other effects: After being allergic to deer antler antler, intravenous injection will not cause anaphylactic shock. Deer antler can excite the isolated intestine and uterus and enhance the diuretic function of the kidneys. The blood pressure reduction experiment using cats proved that the effect of deer antler removal was slightly higher than that of non-testicular deer antler removal.
