【Pharmacological action】

1. The above effects of decoctions are weaker than those of tinctures.

2. A concentration of 0.5 mg/ml of chloranthate can cause the frog's rectus abdominis muscle to contract in vitro, and is not blocked by curare; it can lower blood pressure and heart rate, dilate blood vessels, and increase respiratory rate and amplitude in dogs; 0.5 mg/kg given orally to rats has a diuretic and cathartic effect; it has a slight antipyretic effect in rats.

3. The saponin mixture isolated from the seeds can enhance the contractility of isolated frog hearts, guinea pig hearts and rabbit hearts; when the cardiac papillary muscles fail, the effect of the saponin in enhancing myocardial contractility is faster than that of digitalis, but the duration of action is shorter.

[Identification] Take 0.2g of the powder, add 5ml of ethanol, reflux for 10 minutes, and filter. Take 2 ml of the filtrate, evaporate to dryness, add 1 ml of acetic anhydride to dissolve it, pour it into a small test tube, add 1 ml of concentrated sulfuric acid along the wall, and a brown-red ring will appear.
