It is round in shape, without lateral line, with 49 to 53 vertical rows of scales and 15 horizontal rows of scales on the side of the body. There are hard serrated scales on the abdomen, with 24 to 27 in front of the pelvic fin and 12 to 15 behind the pelvic fin. Dorsal fin short, 15 to 17 cm, with its starting point equidistant from the tip of snout and base of caudal fin, and a considerable distance behind the starting point of pelvic fin. Anal fin long, 47-50 cm, base length about 3 times that of dorsal fin base. The pectoral fins almost reach the pelvic fins. The pelvic fins are extremely short. The caudal fin is deeply forked. The sides and lower part of the body are silvery white; the back, snout, dorsal fin and caudal fin are light yellowish green; the other fins are white.
