[Source] Medicinal material source: The tuberous root of the plant Panax ginseng of the Araliaceae family.

[Original form] Perennial herb, about 40cm tall. The stem has longitudinal stripes and is glabrous. The rhizome is horizontal, short, bamboo-whip-shaped, and has several fleshy roots. About 3cm long. The leaves are palmately compound, several of which are whorled at the top of the stem; the petiole is about 5 cm long; the stipules are small, lanceolate, and about 5 mm long; there are 3-4 leaflets, which are thin and transparent, with leaf blades obovate-elliptic to obovate-oblong, the central leaf is 9-10 cm long and 3.5-4 cm wide, and the lateral ones are smaller, with acuminate tip, gradually narrowed base, decurrent, and double serrated edges, and the upper veins are densely covered with bristles; there are 8-10 pairs of lateral veins, and the reticulate veins are obvious. Umbel solitary at the base, about 3.5cm in diameter, with 20-50 flowers; peduncle about 12cm long, glabrous; pedicels slender, about 1cm long; calyx cup-shaped or gyroid, with 5 small teeth on the edge, teeth triangular; corolla yellow-green, 5 petals; 5 stamens, short filaments; ovary 2-chambered, 2 styles, free, retroflex, fruit a drupe-like berry.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown under broad-leaved forests or mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forests at an altitude of 2300-3300m.

[Properties] Property identification: The rhizome is fleshy and bead-like, with the front end shaped like a short bamboo whip. The root tuber is spindle-shaped. Slight odor, light taste.

[Chemical composition] The leaves contain chikusetsu saponin V, ginsenosides Rb1, Re, Rd, Rb3, Rg1, and pseudoginsenosides F11 and F8.

【Nature and flavor】 Slightly bitter; sweet; warm

【Functions and indications】Removing blood stasis and stopping bleeding; reducing swelling and relieving pain. It is used for vomiting blood, nosebleed, bloody diarrhea, metrorrhagia, postpartum lochia, and traumatic injury.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 1-9g; or made into pills or powder; or soaked in wine. For external use: take appropriate amount and grind into powder for application.
