[Original form] Perennial herb. The stolons are slender and horizontal, with roots and leaves at the nodes. Most leaves are basal; petiole is 2-12cm long, slightly hairy; leaf blade is papery, nearly round, reniform or broadly ovate, 0.5-2.5cm long, slightly wider than long, with 3-7, sometimes up to 10 crenates or 3-5 fissures on margin, base is rounded, truncated or broadly cuneate, and glabrous. There are 1-4 peduncles, 5-15cm high, with linear glabrous bracts; the flowers are bisexual, solitary at the terminal end; the sepals are 5, ovate, 3-4mm long, glabrous, green, reflexed, and caducous early; the petals are 5, narrowly elliptic, yellow, nearly as long as the sepals, with rounded apex, claws at the base, about 1mm long, and dotted nectar grooves on the upper end of the claws; the stamens are numerous, the filaments are about 2mm long, and the anthers are about 0.5-0.8mm long; the florets are cylindrical, about 5mm long, and have short hairs. Achenes are small and numerous, up to 100, about 5 mm long, with 3-5 longitudinal ribs, glabrous, and with a very short, dotted beak. Flowering and fruiting period is from May to September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows in alkaline swamps or lakeside.

【Functions and indications】Diuresis and detumescence; dispel wind and dampness. Mainly used for edema, ascites, urinary incontinence, rheumatic pain

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 1.5-4.5g.

【Preparation】 Ointment.

[Additional prescription] Burn ointment: 200g of water hyacinth seedlings, 175g of sub-rhubarb, 150g of water sponge, 150g of ranunculus, 150g of pyrrosia, 150g of red ochre. Crush into fine powder and mix well. Used for fire burns. Mix with water and apply to the affected area.
