What are the side effects of codeine platycodon

In life, many people are more likely to catch colds and coughs when they are affected by the outside world. When they suffer from these diseases, they must receive timely treatment. Among the drugs for treating cough, codeine platycodon is a relatively common drug. It has many good effects on suppressing cough. The drug is also relatively convenient to take, so it is accepted by many patients. Now let’s talk about the sequelae of taking codeine platycodon.

1. Codeine Platycodon grandiflorum tablets are antitussive and expectorant drugs. This product is a compound preparation of Chinese and Western medicine composed of codeine and platycodon grandiflorum. It is used for cough or dry cough caused by acute and chronic bronchitis and pharyngitis caused by colds and influenza. Long-term use may cause dependence, and occasional symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, stomach discomfort, nausea, vomiting, and constipation.

2. Codeine is a natural opioid isolated from the poppy plant and was soon proven to have analgesic effects. The codeine currently used in clinical practice is extracted from opium or made from morphine by methylation. It is white fine crystals, soluble in boiling water or ether, easily soluble in ethanol, and the pH of a 0.5% aqueous solution is >9. It needs to be stored in a light-proof and airtight container.

3. Codeine has antitussive, analgesic and sedative effects. Its antitussive effect is 1/4 of that of morphine; its analgesic effect is only 1/12 to 1/7 of that of morphine, but it is stronger than general antipyretic and analgesic drugs, and its duration of action is similar to that of morphine; its sedative effect is not obvious; and its drug addictiveness is weaker than that of morphine.

4. Platycodon grandiflorum can clear the lungs, relieve sore throat, eliminate phlegm and discharge pus. It is used for cough with excessive sputum, chest tightness, sore throat, hoarseness, lung abscess with pus vomiting, and pus-filled sores without ulceration. The saponins contained in Platycodon grandiflorum cause a certain degree of irritation to the throat mucosa and gastric mucosa when taken orally, reflexively causing hypersecretion of the respiratory mucosa, diluting the sputum and promoting its excretion. Crude Platycodon grandiflorum saponins have an antitussive effect. Platycodon grandiflorum has no direct antibacterial effect, but its water extract can enhance the phagocytic function of macrophages and enhance the bactericidal ability of neutrophils. Increase the activity of lysozyme.

Codeine Platycodon grandiflorum precautions

1. Long-term use of Codeine Platycodon Tablets may cause dependence and should be managed as Class II psychotropic drugs.

2. Patients with severe depression, central nervous system or respiratory tract diseases that can cause respiratory depression, acute alcohol poisoning, acute abdomen, epilepsy, Addison's disease, ulcerative colitis, prostate hyperplasia, and poor liver and kidney function should be particularly careful when using this drug.
