Lupulone and osmochlor have significant inhibitory effects on Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus faecalis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Bacillus anthracis, Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus cereus in vitro.

The antibacterial concentration of lupulone is between 1:100000 and 1:1000000, and the antibacterial effect of fennel is weaker.

The inhibitory concentration of lupulone against Mycobacterium tuberculosis in vitro is 25pg/ml. For mice infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rvihvnu, intramuscular injection or oral administration of lupulone for 30 consecutive days can significantly reduce the number of acid-fast bacilli in the lesions of organs such as the liver, heart, lungs and spleen of infected mice. Glyoxaline has a dinitrophenol-like effect on cats. After intravenous injection of 3 mg/kg, oxygen consumption can immediately increase by 100%, and shortness of breath will occur, followed by a rise in body temperature.
