What are the effects and functions of Sichuan costusroot?

Sichuan costusroot is a medicinal material with many main sources of efficacy. It is generally well-known in the Chinese medicine industry. Chinese medicine practitioners will also place this medicinal material in different positions. Sichuan costusroot is mainly used to help the stomach, large intestine, small intestine, spleen and stomach, etc. It can mainly promote qi and relieve pain. It has a good effect on patients with frequent abdominal pain and diarrhea, as well as liver and gallbladder pain.

According to the thin layer chromatography method (Appendix Ⅵ B), 5 μl of each of the above two solutions were taken and spotted on the same silica gel G thin layer plate, and toluene-ethyl acetate (19:1) was used as the developing solvent. The plate was developed, taken out, dried, sprayed with 5% vanillin sulfuric acid solution, and heated until the spots were clearly colored. In the chromatogram of the test sample, spots of the same color appear at the corresponding positions in the chromatogram of the control medicinal material.

Pungent, bitter, warm. It enters the spleen, stomach, large intestine and gallbladder meridians.

Function and indications

Promotes qi circulation and relieves pain. It is used for abdominal distension and pain, intestinal rumbling and diarrhea, tenesmus, discomfort in the flanks, and pain in the liver and gallbladder.
