What are the effects and functions of Scutellaria barbata?

There are actually many functions and effects of half-flowered lotus. It can play a good antibacterial effect, especially against Staphylococcus aureus or Escherichia coli. It can also help inhibit tumors and enhance the body's immunity.

1. Antibacterial effect: 50% decoction of Scutellaria barbata has inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Shigella flexneri, Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli using the flat plate trenching method.

2. Antispasmodic and expectorant effect: The safflower contained in this product has a strong anti-smooth muscle contraction effect caused by histamine, and has a good expectorant effect.

3. Anti-tumor effect: The screening experiment using the Methylene Blue tube method showed that this product had a very mild inhibitory effect on acute myeloid leukemia cells; the screening experiment using the cell respirator method showed that the inhibition rate on acute myeloid leukemia blood cells was greater than 75%.

4. Immunomodulatory effect: The polysaccharide contained in this product can promote ConA-induced mouse spleen cell lymphocyte transformation in vitro, and its optimal concentration is 400r/ml. Sc administration for one week significantly increased the percentage of esterase-positive cells in peripheral blood lymphocytes of mice and promoted DNCB-induced delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions. However, high-dose administration (200 mg/kg) can inhibit the thymus index of mice and has no effect on the spleen index.

5. The alcohol preparation (200 mg/ml) in tumor tissue culture medium has a pro-carcinogenic effect on cancer tissues such as rectal cancer and colon cancer taken from human body; the water decoction has a destructive effect on Hela cells separated from stable cervical cancer cell lines.

6. The cell respirator method experiment showed an inhibition rate of more than 75% on leukemia cells.

7. Alcohol preparations have an inhibitory effect on the growth of transplanted mouse sarcoma S-180, Ehrlich ascites carcinoma, and brain tumor-22.

8. The extract has a hypotensive effect on animals when injected intravenously; but it does not produce the same effect when administered orally.

9. The ether extract of the infusion has a diuretic effect in animal experiments.
