The drug that kills dogs can actually cure many difficult and complicated diseases

When I was a child, the elders told me a story like this: Once upon a time, there was an old man who had been suffering from vomiting and diarrhea for many days and was very depressed. She had an argument with her son and ran away from home because she felt troubled. The old man took a shovel and walked to where he was farming. Waves of irritability came over him and he suddenly felt like dying. So I dug some Pinellia ternata (the local name, its scientific name is Pinellia ternata) from the ground and ate it. It is said that two raw pills of dog medicine can kill a dog. The old man took more than ten pills and felt that he was doomed to die. After eating, he lay down on the ground and fell asleep. After a long time, the old man woke up. Strangely, not only did he not die, but his original irritability disappeared, and the vomiting and diarrhea gradually stopped.

This story left a deep impression on me, but I never understood the meaning behind it. It was not until I later studied "Treatise on Febrile Diseases" that I gradually began to understand. Article 309 of "Treatise on Febrile Diseases" says, "For Shaoyin disease, vomiting and diarrhea, cold hands and feet, irritability and desire to die, Wuzhuyu Decoction is the main treatment." The legendary old man's condition was very similar to the one described in this article. It is also caused by spleen and kidney yang deficiency, internal excess of yin and cold, and disordered qi movement. Wuzhuyu Decoction can warm the middle and replenish deficiency, reduce adverse effects and stop vomiting; it is mainly used to treat spleen and kidney deficiency and cold, and turbid yin upward flow syndrome. The old man's illness was similar to that of Wuzhuyu Decoction, and he took Pinellia with the intention of seeking death. However, Pinellia's effect in relieving adverse reactions and stopping vomiting is stronger than that of Wuzhuyu Decoction, and its nature is warm, which is basically consistent with the main pathogenesis of the old man's disease, so it actually cured the disease.

Modern Chinese medicine believes that Pinellia has the effects of drying dampness and resolving phlegm, relieving adverse effects and stopping vomiting, eliminating lumps and dispersing nodules. It is used for cough and asthma with excessive phlegm, dizziness and palpitations caused by phlegm and fluid, dizziness caused by wind and phlegm, headache caused by phlegm, vomiting and nausea, chest and abdominal distension, and plum pit qi; it can be used raw for external treatment of carbuncles, swellings and phlegm nodules.

Here are a few small folk remedies for using Pinellia ternata to treat diseases:

1. Treatment of chronic pharyngitis: Chronic pharyngitis is also known as "plum pit qi" in traditional Chinese medicine. Its main symptoms are discomfort in the throat and a foreign body sensation. Banxia Houpu Decoction is commonly used for treatment, which is 12 grams of Pinellia, 9 grams of Magnolia bark, 12 grams of Poria, 15 grams of ginger, and 6 grams of Perilla leaf. Decoction in water, three times a day.

2. Dizziness: 15 grams of Pinellia, 15 grams of stir-fried Atractylodes, 10 grams of Gastrodia, 15 grams of dried tangerine peel, 20 grams of Poria, and 20 grams of Alisma. Take it in decoction, one dose per day.

3. Treatment of insomnia: 30 grams of oyster, 30 grams of pinellia, 10 grams of gardenia, 10 grams of poria, 10 grams of julibrissin, 30 grams of polyphylla, and 10 grams of spinach seed. Take it in decoction, one dose per day.

4. To treat vomiting during pregnancy: 9 grams of Pinellia, 6 grams of Poria, 9 grams of Chrysanthemum, and 3 grams of Coptis. Take one dose daily, decocted in water. Generally, one dose will be effective, and 3 to 6 doses will cure the disease.

5. Treatment of mumps: Take an appropriate amount of raw pinellia powder and mix it with egg white to make a paste. Apply it to the affected area, cover it with a dressing, and secure it with adhesive tape. Change the dressing once a day.

Precautions for use: Raw Pinellia is poisonous, and processed Pinellia should be used for internal use. "The Song of Taboos during Pregnancy" lists Pinellia as a taboo during pregnancy, but "Golden Chamber" and later doctors have used Pinellia to treat vomiting during pregnancy. It should be used flexibly according to the actual situation. "The Eighteen Antinomies" records that Pinellia and Aconitum are opposite to each other, so Pinellia should not be used together with Aconitum, Fuzi, Tianxiong and Caowu.
