The role of snakeberry

Snakeberry is mainly used to treat colon cancer, esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, leukemia, multiple myeloma, etc.

Modern pharmacological studies have shown that snakeberry has anti-cancer pharmacological effects such as cytotoxicity, induction of cancer cell apoptosis, anti-metastasis, biological response regulator-like effect, and anti-tumor angiogenesis.

Snakeberry is combined with Solanum nigrum and Blepharitis chinensis to form Longsheyangquan Decoction, which is a basic prescription for the clinical treatment of various malignant tumors. The commonly used dosage is 15 to 30g. For example, in the treatment of intestinal cancer, it can be used together with Sophora flavescens, Bufacang, and Euphorbia pulex; for patients with severe abdominal pain and urgent bowel movements, Citrus aurantium, Costus root, Areca catechu, etc. can be added to promote qi and relieve pain; for those with severe dampness, Poria cocos, Polyporus umbellatus, Alisma orientalis, etc. can be added to strengthen the spleen and eliminate dampness; if the heat symptoms are more severe, Pulsatilla striata, Qinpi, etc. can be added to clear away heat and detoxify; for the treatment of liver cancer, it can be used together with Salvia miltiorrhiza, Astragalus membranaceus, Oldenlandia diffusa, and Solanum nigrum; for the treatment of esophageal cancer, it can be used together with White Hairy Gnaphalium, Solanum nigrum, Yellow Ear Grass, and Lithospermum officinale; for the treatment of lung cancer, it can be used together with Diamond Thorn, Solanum nigrum, White Hairy Gnaphalium, and Golden Wheat; for the treatment of bladder cancer, it can be used together with White Hairy Gnaphalium, Bletilla striata, Smilax glabra, Sophora flavescens, etc.

Clinical Application of Snakeberry

Some patients with intestinal cancer experience abdominal distension and pain that is resistant to pressure, lumps that can be felt in the abdomen, uncomfortable bowel movements with mucus, pus and blood in the stool, a dark purple tongue and ecchymosis on the tongue. Traditional Chinese medicine classifies this as "internal toxic obstruction syndrome." Snakeberry also has the effect of dispersing blood stasis and reducing swelling. For patients with intestinal cancer with internal toxic obstruction of blood stasis, snakeberry can be used together with safflower, peach kernel, angelica, red peony root, and snake tongue grass; for those with severe abdominal pain, you can add Cyperus rotundus, Curcuma aromatica and other herbs to promote qi, activate blood circulation and relieve pain; for those with mucus, pus and blood in the stool, and foul odor, you can add Pulsatilla scabra, Patrinia chinensis and other herbs to clear away heat, detoxify, disperse blood and reduce swelling.

Some patients with intestinal cancer often feel abdominal pain, which is intermittent bloating, poor appetite, and stools that are sometimes dry and sometimes loose. They have to go to the toilet immediately when they feel like defecating. Their stomachs growl loudly, and they still feel uncomfortable after defecation. The stools of these patients often contain blood or mucus and pus. Some patients also feel burning and heaviness at the anus, often accompanied by fever, chest tightness, dry mouth, yellow urine and other symptoms. This is a typical manifestation of damp-heat accumulation. Snakeberry has the effects of clearing away heat and detoxifying, cooling blood and stopping bleeding. These patients can be treated with snakeberry.

Dosage and Usage of Snakeberry: Decoction, 9-15g, fresh product 30-60g; or mash into juice and drink. For external use: mash or grind into powder for application.

Precautions for using snakeberry

Occasionally, there may be nausea, abdominal discomfort and other reactions after oral administration. This product is bitter and cold. Patients with weak spleen and stomach should not take it for a long time or in large doses. It is best to selectively combine it with some medicines that support the positive energy, such as Pseudostellaria baicalensis, stir-fried Atractylodes macrocephala, Chinese yam, etc. Otherwise, symptoms such as epigastric discomfort, decreased food intake, and loose stools that damage the spleen and stomach yang energy may occur.
