In the hearts of most Jin Yong fans, the love flower is a mysterious existence. It is a flower that contains a highly poisonous substance. Once a poisoned person misses his or her sweetheart, he or she will feel unbearable heartache. The so-called "love flower" actually forces you to "forget love". Of course, this is just the special magic that Mr. Jin Yong gave it.

In fact, this kind of love flower really exists in reality, and its scientific name is Datura. You may not know the datura plant, but it also has another name, "datura" or "big trumpet flower". In fact, you have seen it. It may be the wild flower growing in your field or yard. There is a tree like this downstairs in the community where I live, and it turns out to be a highly poisonous love flower.

Datura belongs to the Solanaceae family, also known as datura, nightshade, etc., and is an annual herb. The whole plant is poisonous, among which the seeds are the most toxic. The main toxic components are scopolamine, followed by scopolamine and atropine.

Datura poisoning is mainly caused by accidentally ingesting Datura seeds, sucking its flowers, or applying Datura leaves externally. After poisoning by Datura, the central nervous system is first excited and then inhibited. It can also block the acetylcholine receptors in the postganglionic choleretic neural response system, counteracting the muscarinic effects of choleretic neurotransmitters and choleretic drugs. The maximum dose of scopolamine is 0.475 mg. Children can be poisoned by eating 3 to 8 seeds.

The incubation period of Datura poisoning is about 2 hours. Symptoms of mild poisoning include dry mouth and throat, thirst, sore throat, burning and tightness, difficulty swallowing and hoarseness, flushed skin, mucosal congestion, rapid heartbeat, dilated pupils, blurred vision, slow or absent response to light, and red macules in some patients. In severe poisoning, the body temperature can rise above 40°C, the pulse is weak and rapid, the breathing is shallow and slow, the limbs are cold, the blood pressure drops, and the spirit changes from excessive excitement to mental confusion, delirium, hallucinations, anxiety, tonic or paroxysmal convulsions, and even coma, and death may occur due to respiratory depression.

In case of oral poisoning by Datura, immediately stimulate the epiglottis with hands or chopsticks to induce vomiting, and expel the remaining poison in the stomach that has not been absorbed as much as possible. At the same time, send to a nearby hospital for treatment: ① First take 10 to 30 drops of 2% iodine tincture added to 500 ml of warm water orally to precipitate the biological alkali, and then repeatedly wash the stomach with 1:5000 potassium permanganate or 4% tannic acid or tea. After the gastric lavage is completed, give catharsis. Magnesium sulfate should be used when the central nervous system is excited, and sodium sulfate should be used when the central nervous system is depressed. The dosage is 20 to 30 grams. If the poisoning has lasted for more than 6 hours, high colon irrigation can be performed, and 30 grams of magnesium sulfate can be injected as a catharsis after the irrigation.

② Intravenous drip of 5% or 10% glucose injection to promote the excretion of poisons from the kidneys; ③ Pharmacological antagonism therapy; 5-10 mg of rutine, subcutaneous injection, once every 15-30 minutes for severe cases, until the pupil shrinks, light response appears, and the oral mucosa is moist; 0.5-1 mg of salicylate is injected subcutaneously, and repeated when necessary, but the total dose should not exceed 5 mg; 0.25-1 mg of neostigmine is injected intramuscularly, once every 3 hours; ④ Symptomatic treatment: physical cooling can be given in case of high fever, because the toxic effect of Datura inhibits the secretion of sweat glands, so the antipyretic and analgesic effect is not good; respiratory stimulants, oxygen inhalation or artificial respiration can be used for those with respiratory failure.
