How to cultivate Drosera serrata

Drosera sphenanthera is a carnivorous plant and a species unique to Australia. It generally grows in an environment with high temperature and strong sunlight. Such plants also have the habit of dormancy, especially its roots are particularly developed and grow very deep. When we cultivate it, we need to be careful not to have both cold and humid conditions. Let’s learn about how to grow Drosera sphenanthera.

Drosera falconeri is native to Australia and is a tropical plant. In its place of origin, the daytime temperature in summer often reaches 45 degrees, the night temperature is around 28 degrees, and the lowest temperature in winter remains above 15 degrees. This variety needs to be exposed to strong sunlight even in the hot summer, but it needs good ventilation and an uninterrupted water supply.

This variety of felt plant has a well-developed root system that can drill deep underground to absorb water, so when cultivating it, try to choose a large pot, preferably one that is more than 20 cm high.

Special care is required in winter. In the south, plants can be moved indoors for cultivation, or a greenhouse can be used. In the north, heating equipment (such as heating pads and heating films) is needed to help it survive the winter. Generally, the temperature should not be lower than 15 degrees. If the temperature is too low and there is not enough sunlight, it will easily rot. If it is planted indoors and there is not enough sunlight, you can use lamps to supplement the light, such as T5 lamps.

Through the above introduction, we know how to cultivate Drosera serrata. This is a special plant that mainly feeds on mosquitoes and can capture small insects, especially digest them. There are many varieties of Drosera serrata. It also needs water to maintain its growth during normal cultivation, and water can be cut off during dormancy.
