The outer surface is light gray-black, densely covered with tiny granular protrusions, sometimes with long brown-black hairs and wrinkles of varying degrees. The inner surface is off-white to grey-brown with fibrous outcrops and wrinkles. Hard texture. The cut surface is off-white to yellow-brown, and the thin slices are translucent. Slightly fishy smell. The best ones are dry, large in size and thick in skin. In addition to the above-mentioned species, the skin of the African elephant Elephas africanus Blumen-bach is also used as medicine and is produced in Africa.

Preparation method: Soak the elephant skin for about 3 days, wash it, let it sit for a while, and dry it in the sun until it is 80% dry. Then dip it in water again until the humidity inside and outside is the same, cut it into thin slices about 2 mm thick, and dry it in the sun. Or you can roast it over low heat until soft, and then slice it while hot. Elephant skin powder: first heat the talcum powder in a pot, pour in the elephant skin slices, stir-fry over high heat until it slightly swells and turns dark yellow, take out, sieve out the talcum powder, let cool, and grind into fine powder.
