[Source] Medicinal material source: It is the root of the dicotyledonous plant Rubiaceae.

[Original form] Shrub or small tree, up to 4m tall. Except for the calyx and stipules which are slightly pubescent, the rest are glabrous. Leaves are opposite; petiole 5-8mm long; stipules 5-8mm long, connate at the bottom; leaf blade ovate-oblong, oblong to lanceolate, 6-13cm long, 2-6cm wide, acute or obtuse at apex, broadly cuneate at base. The inflorescence is corymbose, axillary, dense and multi-flowered; the peduncle is less than 8mm long; the flowers are yellow-green and 4-merous; the calyx is about 1mm long, with 4 inconspicuous lobes at the tip; the corolla is about 3mm long, the lobes are equal in length to the corolla, and curl up after opening; the stamens are born in the throat and extend out. The berries are nearly spherical, 4-8mm in diameter, orange-red when ripe, black when dry, with a ring-shaped calyx eave remnant at the tip. The flowering period is from May to July, and the fruiting period is from August to September.
