[Original form] Semi-erect subshrub, 60 to 100 cm high. The stem is fleshy, dark green, cylindrical, 6-12 mm thick, often wavy, and has latex. Simple leaves are alternate; leaf blades are ovate to ovate-rectangular, 5 to 10 cm long, short-pointed, slightly narrow at the base and irregularly curled backwards, with the midrib raised on the back of the leaf. The cup-shaped cymes form dense terminal compound cymes; the involucre is bright red or purple, about 1 cm long, and is bald except for the top lobes which have slight eyelashes. The upper base forms a short spur, shaped like a slipper, with glands on it; the stamens and styles are prominent. The capsule is about 6 mm long. Flowering period is between summer and autumn.
