Yellow gelatin is a common medicinal material in traditional Chinese medicine. However, unlike other Chinese medicinal materials, yellow gelatin is not a Chinese herbal medicine, but a collagen made from yellow cow hide. Many people are not clear about the origin and production method of yellow gelatin, so many people do not understand how to use yellow gelatin. Only when the effects of a drug are clearly understood can it be used effectively. So, what are the effects of gelatin? 【Name】Yellow gelatin [Source] From "Dietary Therapy Materia Medica" 【Pinyin name】Huánɡ Mínɡ Jiāo 【English name】Oxhide Gelatin [Alias] Water glue, cowhide glue, sea rhinoceros glue, Guang glue, gelatin [Source] Medicinal material source: glue made from the skin of cattle. [br]Latin plant, animal and mineral name: Bos taurus domesticus Gmelin[br] [Original form] 1. Yellow cattle, 1.5-2m in length, generally weighing around 280kg. It has a strong and solid physique, a large head and forehead, a wide nose and mouth, two large nostrils above the upper lip, and the skin between the bases is hard, smooth and hairless, which is called the nose. The eyes and ears are relatively large. There is a pair of horns on the head, separated to the left and right. The length and size of the horns vary with the species. The horns are curved and have no branches. They are hollow and contain bony horn marrow. The limbs are symmetrical, four-way, and all have hoofs. The two hind toes do not touch the ground and are called hanging hooves. The tail is relatively long, with a tuft of hair at the end. The hair is mostly yellow without any other hair mixed in. [br]2. The horns are relatively long and the face is flat with many hair lines on it, the neck is short, and the waist and abdomen are bulging. The limbs are shorter and the hooves are larger. The skin is thick and has no sweat glands. The hair is coarse and short, denser on the front of the body and sparser on the back, chest and abdomen. The body color is mostly gray-black, but there are also yellow-brown or white ones. [Habitat distribution]Ecological environment: 1. It has a docile character and grows quickly. Eats plant-based feed. [br]Resource distribution: 1. Raised throughout the country. [br]2. It is raised in most parts of the country, mostly in the rice fields of the south. [Properties] Identification of properties: This product is rectangular or relatively large rectangular pieces, brown-green in color, nearly translucent. It has a faint smell and tastes slightly sweet and salty. [Chemical composition] When the skin of yellow cattle, an animal of the Bovidae family, is boiled in water for a long time, the collagen in the skin changes into yellow gelatin. The collagen of cowhide contains 18.6% nitrogen and some sugar. The total amount of 105g contains the following amino acid molecules: glycine 363, alanine 107, valine 29, leucine + isoleucine 43, proline 131, hydroxyproline 107, phenylalanine 15, tyrosine 5, serine 32, threonine 19, methionine 5, arginine 49, histidine 5, lysine 31, hydroxylysine 77, aspartic acid 47, and glutamic acid 77. After changing to yellow gelatin, the nitrogen content is 18.0%. The number of amino acid molecules in 105g of it is: glycine 359, alanine 105, valine 28, leucine 26, isoleucine 14, proline 129, hydroxyproline 111, phenylalanine 15, tyrosine 6, serine 30, threonine 19, methionine 6, arginine 49, histidine 5, lysine 32, hydroxylysine 7, aspartic acid 51, and glutamic acid 76. Compared with the above, it can be seen that the composition of collagen and gelatin has also changed slightly, but the characteristic of both of them is that they do not contain cystine and cysteine. The significant difference in properties is that collagen is insoluble in water, while gelatin is soluble in water. Negative glue also contains a small amount of calcium, which is mainly added during the degreasing of glue with lime in the process of making glue. [Effect] Gavage of 0.5 ml of 20% yellow gelatin solution to mice once a day for 11 consecutive days significantly increased the amount of hemoglobin, indicating a blood tonic effect; although the white blood cell count of mice was increased, the increase was not significant. When administered according to the above method for 15 days, the swimming time of mice can be slightly prolonged and it has a certain anti-fatigue effect; in addition, it has a certain weight-increasing effect on the thymus of mice. Cowhide can also be used to produce collagen, which can promote the repair and protection of gastric mucosal damage caused by ethanol in rats. [Identification] Physical and chemical identification (1) The gelling temperature of 10% yellow gelatin aqueous solution is 0.5℃. [br](2) Take 5g of yellow gelatin, put it in a 100ml beaker, add 45ml of distilled water, and heat it in a water bath to dissolve. The solution will react with ninhydrin to turn purple; it will react with urea to turn purple. [Preparation] Chop the dried cowhide into small cubes, soak it in clean water for 2 days, stir and change the water frequently, until the cowhide is soft, wash and take it out, put it into a copper pot, add about 5 times the amount of clean water, heat it to make it boil slowly, and add water at any time, filter out the clear liquid every 24 hours, repeat this 3 times, precipitate all the filtrate with alum, pour out the clear juice, heat it into a copper pot again and concentrate it until it does not melt when dripping on the filter paper, add auxiliary materials such as rice wine or rock sugar to collect the glue, pour it into a glue tray, wait until it cools, cut into small pieces, and dry it. 【Nature and flavor】Sweet; neutral 【Meridian】Lung; Large Intestine 【Effects】Nourishes yin and moistens dryness; nourishes blood and stops bleeding; promotes blood circulation and reduces swelling; detoxifies. It is used for asthenia, pulmonary tuberculosis, coughing and hemoptysis, vomiting and epistaxis, metrorrhagia, dysentery and bloody stool, traumatic injury, carbuncle and sore, and burns (the efficacy and function of yellow gelatin) [Usage and Dosage] For oral use: Mix with water or wine, 3-9g; or make into pills or powder. "Compendium of Materia Medica": Huangmingjiao is a medicine for stopping various types of blood loss. Liang Xinru said, its nature is sticky, its taste is sweet and astringent, and it can be added to medicine to consolidate Qi and restrain deficiency. It is similar to donkey-hide gelatin, but its nature is milder and more suitable for those with deficiency-heat. When it comes to dispersing carbuncles, regulating pus and relieving pain, protecting membranes and promoting tissue regeneration, yellow gelatin is even better than donkey-hide gelatin. [br]2. "Supplement to Compendium of Materia Medica": Treats wind, stops diarrhea, and replenishes deficiency. [br]3. "Compendium of Materia Medica": Treats vomiting blood, epistaxis, bleeding, hematuria, dysentery, bleeding due to fetal movement in pregnant women, pain caused by rheumatism, injuries from blows, burns from hot water or fire, all kinds of carbuncles and swellings, promotes blood circulation and relieves pain, moisturizes dryness, and benefits the large and small intestines. [br]4. "Medical Collection": Nourishes the lungs and clears metal, nourishes yin and blood, promotes water circulation, and benefits the large intestine. The above is an introduction to the effects of yellow gelatin. It can be seen that yellow gelatin has a good effect on treating coughing up blood, blood in stool, and sprains. Yellow gelatin has a very good effect of promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, reducing fire and reducing inflammation. When encountering these diseases, you can use gelatin to treat the pain under the guidance of a doctor, but do not use it without authorization. |
