The stems and leaves can treat chronic dysentery; the seeds are cooling sedatives and analgesics; the roots can repel burning insects; and aromatic oils can be extracted from the flowers and leaves.

It can relieve heat and quench thirst, promote diuresis, relieve pain, eliminate phlegm, and promote qi. The stems can treat burns, burn sores, toothache caused by wind and fire, and amblyopia and cataracts. The root tastes sweet, bitter, flat and non-toxic. It can relieve muscles and induce sweating; treat heart wind, headache wind, and all kinds of wind in the limbs. The leaves are bitter, pungent and non-toxic. It is used to treat dysentery, cholera, convulsions, hematuria, lower body sores, beriberi and swelling, and bleeding from the nine orifices. The fruit is bitter, warm and non-toxic. It can eliminate cold and heat between bones, promote the flow of stomach qi, relieve cough and reverse gas; treat heart pain, leucorrhea in women, small intestinal hernia, and deafness. Jingli (take a piece of thick stem, roast it over fire, and the juice that flows out from both ends) is sweet, flat, non-toxic, and can remove heart heat, eliminate phlegm, and relieve febrile dysentery; it can treat dizziness caused by headache, lockjaw caused by stroke, headache, sores, and diarrhea. Dosage: 1.5~3 qian of fruit; 3~7 qian of root; 2~3 qian of leaf; take with 50~100 ml of Jingli juice.

However, the leaves of this tree cannot be taken orally. Try to crush the fresh leaves and apply them to the affected area. Remember that they must be fresh, otherwise the medicinal value will not be so good, and even bacteria may be present.
