Puberulent and grooved; leaf blade thinly leathery, elliptic or ovate-elliptic, sometimes lanceolate, 1-4cm long, 0.6-1.5cm wide, rarely larger, up to 9cm long, with acute or acuminate apex, sometimes obtuse to nearly rounded, rarely caudal, base gradually narrowed or nearly rounded, leaf margin recurved, sometimes only pubescent along the upper midrib. The panicle flowers are dense, often nearly cylindrical, or sometimes with only a few flowers in clusters, usually borne in the axils of last year's branches or laterally at the top of branchlets; the peduncle is 0-2.5 cm long, densely covered with short soft hairs or bristles, and obviously ridged when fruiting; the bracts are linear or subulate, 1-6 mm long; the calyx is 1-2 mm long, with triangular teeth or nearly truncate; the corolla is 4-7.5 mm long, and the corolla tube is 2.5-5 mm long; the filaments are 1.5-2 mm long, shorter than the corolla lobes or nearly the same length as the lobes.
