【English name】 HERBA EUPHORBIAE HUMIFUSAE

[Other names] Milkweed, ground brocade, ground red, blood-seeing sorrow, egg-lying grass, bird-lying eggs, insect-lying eggs

[Source] This product is the dried whole herb of Euphorbia humifusa Willd. or Euphorbia maculata L. , which belong to the Euphorbiaceae family . Harvest in summer and autumn, remove impurities and dry in the sun.

[Properties] Ground ivy: often wrinkled and curled, with small roots. The stem is thin and forked-branched, with a purple-red surface, smooth and hairless or sparsely covered with white fine hairs; it is brittle and easy to break, with a yellow-white cross section and is hollow. Simple leaves are opposite, with light red short petioles or almost sessile; the leaves are mostly wrinkled or fallen off, and become oblong when flattened, 5-10mm long and 4-6mm wide; green or purplish red, usually glabrous or sparsely covered with fine soft hairs; the apex is obtuse, the base is oblique, and the edge is serrated or wavy. Cup-shaped cymes are axillary and small. The capsule is triangular spherical with a smooth surface. The seeds are small, oval and brown. Odorless, slightly astringent taste.

【Identification】 The powder of this product is green-brown. The outer wall of leaf epidermal cells has papillary protrusions. In the mesophyll tissue, the cells around the ends of the veinlets are arranged radially in circles. Non-glandular hairs have 3 to 8 cells, about 14 μm in diameter, and are mostly broken. Small flake-like starch granules can be seen in the unsegmented laticifers.

[Processing] Remove impurities, spray with clean water, moisten slightly, cut into sections, and dry in the sun.
