Its seeds can also kill insects. "Supplement to Compendium of Materia Medica" states: "In the summer months, collect the pulp and seeds of old melons and put them in a bottle. The longer the bottle is stored, the better. Apply this to any burns and the pain will be relieved immediately." Chinese medicine often uses pumpkin to treat chronic cough, asthma, postpartum edema, pleurisy, diabetes, scalds, burns, prolapse of the anus, and to deworm.

The anthelmintic effect of pumpkin seeds has been proven by modern pharmacological experiments. Pumpkin seed alcohol solution can kill red needles within 1 hour, and the squeezed liquid can kill red needles within 45 minutes. It can also prevent and treat schistosomiasis.

1. To treat asthma: Wash a pumpkin, make an opening on the top of the pumpkin, scoop out some of the pulp, fill it with honey and rock sugar, cover it, and steam it in a steamer for 1 hour. Take once in the morning and evening every day for 5-7 days.

2. To treat chronic cough: cut off the head of the pumpkin vine, put it in a bottle, let the juice flow into it, take the juice with boiled water.

3. To treat habitual abortion: 30 grams of old pumpkin, boiled in water and taken for several days to have the effect of stabilizing the fetus.

7. Treatment of chronic bronchitis: 500 grams of fresh pumpkin (peeled), 15-20 red dates, appropriate amount of brown sugar, add water to boil and drink. This method has the effect of tonifying the middle and replenishing Qi, and consolidating the lung Qi.

8. To treat lung abscess, cough and sputum: peel and cut 500 grams of pumpkin into pieces, wash and cut 250 grams of lean beef into pieces, and add 25 grams of ginger. First, add water to the beef and ginger, and simmer until they are 80% cooked. Then add the pumpkin and simmer until it is well-cooked. Add salt and MSG to taste, and eat in several servings. This method has the effects of resolving phlegm, draining pus and detoxifying.

9. To treat burns and scalds: mash the pumpkin, extract the juice and apply it to the affected area. Or take appropriate amount of pumpkin pulp and potassium nitrate, mash them together and apply to the affected area. Applying pumpkin vine juice to the affected area is also effective.
