What are the differences between honeysuckle and mountain honeysuckle?

Speaking of honeysuckle, I believe many people know about it. But when it comes to honeysuckle, most people don't know it. Although there is only one word difference between honeysuckle and mountain honeysuckle, there are huge differences in their essence. Of course, most people don’t really understand this aspect. So, what are the differences between honeysuckle and mountain honeysuckle? Let us take a look at it together below.

The difference between the plant morphology of honeysuckle and honeysuckle

1. Smell: There is a very obvious difference between the smell of honeysuckle and honeysuckle. The smell of honeysuckle is calm, while the smell of honeysuckle is relatively fragrant.

2. Size: The flowers of honeysuckle are larger than those of mountain honeysuckle, and its buds are fuller than those of mountain honeysuckle.

3. Color: There are some differences in the colors of honeysuckle and honeysuckle. The color of honeysuckle is darker than that of honeysuckle, and its color is dark green with some purple.

4. Flower buds: The scientific name of honeysuckle is Lonicera japonica, and its flowers are called honeysuckle. The medicine used in herbal tea is the buds of honeysuckle. Therefore, the difference between flower buds is very important. The buds of honeysuckle have more hairs and feel soft and elastic, while the buds of honeysuckle feel hard and have fewer hairs on the stamens.

The difference in the effects of honeysuckle and Chinese honeysuckle: Honeysuckle in herbal tea cannot be replaced by Chinese honeysuckle, mainly because the effects of Chinese honeysuckle and honeysuckle are different and completely opposite. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that honeysuckle is cold in nature, sweet in taste and slightly sour in taste. It has the effects of clearing away heat and detoxifying, cooling blood, and promoting blood circulation. It can be used for carbuncles, furuncles, throat paralysis, erysipelas, heat-toxic bloody dysentery, wind-heat colds, and fever caused by febrile diseases. However, mountain honeysuckle is hot in nature and does not have the effect of clearing heat and detoxifying. Its efficacy is completely opposite to that of honeysuckle. The main ingredient in honeysuckle is luteolin, while honeysuckle contains almost no luteolin, but its chlorogenic acid content is higher than that of honeysuckle.

Honeysuckle and Chinese honeysuckle not only have great differences in plant morphology, but also in efficacy. It is precisely because of the understanding and mastery of these two that I hope that in the future, when you encounter honeysuckle and mountain honeysuckle again in your life, you must distinguish them. Only in this way can we avoid misusing them.
