Is the corn snake poisonous?

At present, there are many kinds of snakes counted, so few people can distinguish all of them. The main way to distinguish them is by the patterns on the snakes. For example, the corn snake lives in farmland and the patterns on its body are very similar to the corn we eat, so people call this snake the corn snake. However, people don’t know whether the corn snake is poisonous.

The corn snake belongs to the animal kingdom and the family Colubridae. Its origin is distributed in dry woodlands, swamps, farmlands, etc. in the southeastern United States and along the Gulf of Mexico.

Toxicity: Non-toxic.

The total length is 80-120 cm, and the longest can reach 182 cm. There are many colors, usually gray, gray-brown, khaki, orange, etc. These colors are the base color, with red or reddish-brown markings bordered with black. There are light and dark checkered markings on the abdomen, and straight stripes on the ventral side of the tail. Some gray individuals have black checkered patterns on their abdomens, so they are also called "corn snakes." This snake is the most variable subspecies, with snakes in the same nest having both horizontal and vertical stripes. A variety of different body color variations have been bred. Such as albinism, yellowing type, redding type, colorless type, and longitudinal striped type.

The vast majority of corn snakes entering China are artificially bred and are mutants that have been bred. They should be fed under artificial conditions and should not be fed fish, eggs, etc. Artificially bred corn snakes mainly feed on small mammals, and mice are often chosen. Feed them with suckling mice when they are young, and feed them with small white suckling mice when they are one year old, and gradually increase their size. The temperature should be controlled between 28 and 31 degrees. Below 26 degrees, digestion will be slow and feeding will be difficult. Below 24 degrees, enteritis will easily occur.

You can use a relatively simple, tall, wide, well-ventilated and sturdy breeding box. Make sure it has a sturdy cover on the top to prevent escape. Dead wood, artificial turf or newspapers, stone caves for hiding, etc. can be placed in the box, and dead branches can be prepared for use when they shed their bark, as well as basins for drinking water and bathing. There should be a reptile lamp to keep warm. You can feed them with small white mice, 7-10 days apart. Do not feed them too large or too many, otherwise they will vomit. Do not disturb them after each meal to avoid vomiting and death.

From the article we have learned whether the corn snake is poisonous. This kind of snake is not poisonous at all, so people will not be poisoned after being bitten. Just pay attention to bandaging the bitten area and do not let the affected area get infected, otherwise it is likely to be infected by bacteria.
