Can't eat Longkou vermicelli on an empty stomach? Netizens are shocked! This is what the doctor said

Recently, a netizen posted a message saying: "I have been eating Longkou vermicelli for so long, but now I know that I can't eat it on an empty stomach." In the comment area, there are also netizens who claim to be from Longkou. They said that Longkou vermicelli is completely different from rice noodles and cannot be used as a staple food. "It should be eaten as a side dish." If you eat it on an empty stomach, your stomach will definitely feel uncomfortable.

The reporter visited offline supermarkets and found that most of the packaging bags of Longkou vermicelli did have relevant labels such as "not suitable for taking on an empty stomach" printed on them.

Previously, because Longkou vermicelli is easy to buy, store and contains no fat, it was used as a staple food by many citizens during their weight loss period. However, they overlooked the fact that it cannot be taken on an empty stomach.

Why can't Longkou vermicelli be eaten on an empty stomach? What effects will eating on an empty stomach have on the human body?

In this regard, the reporter interviewed Peng Xichun, deputy chief physician of the Nutrition Department of Changsha Central Hospital.

Some netizens analyzed that the key reason why Longkou vermicelli cannot be taken on an empty stomach is that the mung beans in its ingredients are a "cold" ingredient, and taking a large amount will irritate the stomach. In response to this view, Peng Xichun said, "After a series of processing techniques, most of the mung beans are still starch, and starch does not have the problem of 'coldness'." She believes that the starch is the root cause of the discomfort of the citizens.

The reporter sorted out the raw material list of most Longkou vermicelli on the market and found that its main ingredients are peas (pea starch), mung beans (mung bean starch) and water. Peng Xichun said that the raw materials of Longkou vermicelli are mostly starch, "which is sugar". If people take a large amount of it on an empty stomach or when hungry, the sugar will stimulate the secretion of gastric acid, "and if it is mild, it may cause acid reflux and bloating."

In addition, common biological starch is divided into amylose and amylopectin. In comparison, foods containing amylose are less likely to stimulate blood sugar and insulin, and have a stronger sense of fullness. Although it is not easy to gain weight by eating foods with a high content of amylose, they are also more difficult to be broken down and digested. "Foods that are difficult to cook, such as Longkou vermicelli, contain mostly amylose," said Peng Xichun.

"If we encounter citizens whose stomachs are delicate and prone to indigestion, or even those with gastric ulcers or related chronic diseases, we generally recommend that they do not eat on an empty stomach, and pay attention to the amount when eating, with a small amount preferred," said Peng Xichun.

Peng Xichun reminded that in addition to Longkou vermicelli, citizens should also pay attention to the fact that they should not drink coffee or strong tea on an empty stomach in their daily lives; people with lactose intolerance should not drink milk on an empty stomach; and when the stomach is empty, irritating condiments such as ginger, garlic and chili can also irritate the gastric mucosa and induce gastrointestinal diseases.
