[Original form] Water hair flower, perennial herb, 60-100cm high. The rhizome is short and thick with slender fibrous roots. Spikelets are 2-9, gathered into a head, pseudo-lateral, ovate or oblong-ovate, 8-16mm long, 4-6mm wide, with many flowers; scales are oblong-ovate, 4-5mm long, light brown, with a short tip at the apex, 1 midrib, and short red-brown stripes on both sides; there are 6 inferior setae, nearly the same length as the nutlets, with barbs; 3 stamens, linear anthers; 3 stigmas. The nutlets are broadly obovate, flat triangular, 2-2.5 mm long, brown-black when ripe, shiny, and with inconspicuous wrinkles. Flowering and fruiting period is from May to September.
