[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Corydalis odoratum of the Poppy family.

[Original form] Oriental Corydalis is a perennial herb, 10-25cm tall, glabrous. The underground stem is slender. The stem is erect, usually unbranched, with two membranous scales at the base. There are 3-4 leaves; the petiole is slender, with the base forming a sheath that embraces the stem; the leaf blade is doubly ternately divided, with the final segment narrowly lanceolate to broadly linear, green above and light blue below. The racemes are apical, with 6-12 flowers densely packed together; the bracts are inverted to elliptical, and the apex is sometimes completely split; the pedicels are equal in length to or slightly shorter than the bracts; the corolla is purplish red, with a concave tip on the outer diaphragm and no protrusions at the base of the lower petal; the ovary is linear, and the stigma is 2-lobed. Capsule beaded. The seeds are black and shiny. The flowering period is April-May, and the fruiting period is May-June.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in wetlands beside ditches under forests.

[Chemical composition] The whole plant contains saponins, and the lower stems contain a variety of alkaloids: bulbocapnine, protoopine, 1-corydaline and d-tetrahydropalmatine, also known as d-tetrahydropalmatine.
