Reed, perennial herb, up to 1.5cm tall. With a robust scaly rhizome. The culm is erect, glabrous, multi-noded, and each node has long hairs. Leaves are alternate; leaf sheaths are longer than internodes, or those at the upper part are shorter than internodes; ligule is about 1mm or less long, obtuse at the tip, with small cilia; leaf blades are linear, 10-16cm long, 4-12mm wide, densely pubescent at the base above. The panicle is fan-shaped, 20-30cm long, with no hairs on the main axis and branches, and only small soft hairs in the branch axils; the branches are weak, 10-20cm long, with 1 short-stalked spikelet and 1 long-stalked spikelet at each node, all of which are strong and the same shape, containing 2 florets, only the second floret is strong; the white filamentous hairs on the base are about twice the number of spikelets; the 2 ridges of the first glume have filamentous hairs, the edges are transparent and membranous, with cilia; there are 3 stamens; the stigma extends from both sides of the spikelet. Flowering and fruiting period is August to October.

Identification of properties: It is flat cylindrical, often curved, with a diameter of 2.5-5mm. The surface is yellowish white with slight luster and vertical lines. The nodes often have very short hairs or scales, with an internode distance of 0.5-1.9cm. It is hard and brittle, with small cracks in the cross section, a small hole in the center, and pink surrounding the hole. Slight odor, light taste.
