Below I would like to recommend a Chinese medicine, eggplant root, to you and describe the effects of eggplant root in detail. I hope it will be helpful to your study and research.

[Other name] Eggplant mother (from "Zhaiyuan Fang").

[Source] It is the root and stem of Solanum , a plant of the Solanaceae family. Between September and October, when the whole plant withers, pull it up with its roots, remove the dry leaves, clean the soil, and dry it in the sun.

[Habitat distribution] It is produced in most parts of my country.

[Properties] Most of the dried stems have been cut into small sections. The roots are whisker-like, usually twisted and intricate, the main root is not obvious, the texture is solid, easy to break, the cross section is yellow-white, and the center is xylem. The stem is cylindrical or flattened cylindrical, with branches. The cut branches are 12 to 20 cm long. The surface is brown-gray and smooth, with fine longitudinal wrinkles and scattered yellow-white dot-like lenticels. The leaf scars are crescent-shaped and slightly raised, and there are remnants of branches or branch scars on each leaf scar. It is light and hard, not easy to break, the cross section is yellowish-white, uneven, fibrous, with a hole in the center, and the gas is weak. Dry and leafless ones are preferred.

【Pharmacological action】 The root extract has certain antibacterial effects.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet, spicy, cold.

【Functions and indications】 Treats chronic diarrhea with bloody stool, athlete's foot, toothache, and frostbite.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 3 to 6 qian; or made into powder. For external use: decoct in water for washing, mash into juice for application, or burn and grind into powder for application.

[Additional prescription] ① To treat chronic dysentery: eggplant root (burned to ashes) and pomegranate peel in equal parts. For the end. Take it with sugar water. (Simple single prescription)

[Clinical application] Treatment of chronic bronchitis: Make the eggplant roots into syrup containing 2 grams of crude drug per milliliter, take 50 milliliters each time, 2 to 3 times a day, 10 days as a course of treatment, and take three courses in a row. A total of 68 cases were treated experimentally, 22 of which were under control in the short term, 21 showed marked effects, 19 improved, and 6 were ineffective. This drug has a better expectorant effect but a poorer antiasthmatic effect, and is not satisfactory in eliminating pulmonary rales. After taking the medicine, red blood cells and hemoglobin decreased to varying degrees, and no obvious effects were found on liver and kidney functions.
