The leaves of Huangniumu have the effects of clearing away heat and removing fire, clearing away heat and dampness, eliminating stagnation, and removing blood stasis and reducing swelling. The wood of the yellow cattle tree is hard and has beautiful patterns, and can be used for hand carving; the young fruits are used as cooking spices; the roots, rhizomes and leaves are used as medicine to make yellow cattle tree tea, which can treat colds and diarrhea.

Yellow cattle wood is produced in Guangdong Province, Guangxi Province and southern Yunnan Province. It grows in secondary forests or thickets on the dry sunny slopes of hilly terrain or mountain slopes, below 1240 meters above sea level. It is drought-resistant and has strong sprouting ability. There are also routes from Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia to Thailand.

1. Microscope identification:

Cross-section of this product: There are 1 row of upper and lower epidermal cells, the somatic cells are round or quasi-annular, and there are 1-3 rows of thick-horned somatic cells on the inner side; there is 1 row of guardrail tissue somatic cells, which do not pass through the main vein; the main vein conducting tissue is crescent-shaped; 2-5 phloem hoses are arranged in an order, and the cambium is not obvious; there are 1-4 rows of chemical fibers in the conducting tissue sheath. The thin-walled cells contain clusters of calcium oxalate crystals.

2. Physical and chemical identification:

Remove 2g of the powder of this product, add 3b250l of ethanol, heat and reflux on a water bath for 30 minutes, filter, take the leachate, evaporate to dryness, add 15ml of water to dissolve the sediment, filter, shake with butyl acetate to obtain 15ml twice, evaporate the extract to dryness, add 1ml of ethanol to dissolve the sediment, and use it as a standard solution. Take another 2g of yellow cattle wood leaf as reference Chinese medicinal material, and prepare the Chinese medicinal material aqueous solution in the same way as described above.

Dead-leaf shrubs or bushes, 1.5-18 (-25) m high, all hairless, with clusters of long thorns on the underside of the trunk; the roots are earthy yellow or dark red, smooth or with stripes. The branches are opposite, the young branches are slightly flat, hairless, dark red, and the line marks between the leaf stems at the nodes are continuous or occasionally interrupted.

The leaves are elliptical to oblong or lanceolate, 3-10.5cm long, 1-4cm wide, with a steeply acute or acuminate apex, obtuse to wedge-shaped tip, hard, glabrous on both sides, emerald green above, floury green below, with transparent glandular dots and small black spots, midrib concave above, convex below, 8-12 lateral veins on each side, raised on both sides, obliquely spread, tail not arc-shaped and closed, veinlet network structure, raised on both sides; leaf stem 2-3mm long, glabrous.

Cymes axillary or extra-axillary and terminal, with (1-)2-3 flowers, pedunculate; peduncles 3-

1b250m or more. Flower diameter 1-1.5cm; pedicel 2-3mm long. The calyx is oval, 5-7mm long, 2-5mm wide, annular at the apex, with gray-black longitudinal glandular strips all around, which expand when fruiting. The flowers are pink, dark red to reddish yellow, obovate, 5-1b250m long, 2.5-5mm wide, ring-shaped at the apex, wedge-shaped at the tip, with black glandular patterns between the veins, and no fish scales. There are 3 pistil bundles, 4-8mm long, with a wide and flat to long and thin stalk. The upper and lower fleshy glandular ducts are long annular to obovate, helmet-shaped, up to 3mm long, 1-1.5mm wide, and thickened and recurved at the top. Ovary conical, 3mm long, glabrous, 3-chambered; styles 3, linear, diverging from tip, 2mm long.
