In fact, medicinal lilac and ornamental lilac are two completely different plants:

Lilac: Also known as Syringa, the plants of this genus are deciduous shrubs or small trees; most of them are for ornamental purposes, some species of flowers can be used to extract aromatic oils, and they are also nectar plants, and the wood is used for construction and furniture.

Clove: The flower buds of an evergreen tree of the Myrtaceae family, commonly known as Syringa japonica, are mainly produced in Tanzania, Malaysia, and Indonesia; they are also cultivated in my country's Nanhai Province.

Next, let’s focus on the medicinal effects of cloves:

Clove is warm in nature and spicy in taste, and enters the lung, spleen, stomach and kidney meridians. It has the effects of warming the middle and relieving adverse effects, dispelling cold and relieving pain, warming the kidney and assisting yang.

Main indications: hiccups, vomiting, nausea, dysentery, cold pain in the heart and abdomen, stranguria, hernia, and ringworm.

About the application of cloves:

1. Used for vomiting and hiccups due to stomach cold: Clove can warm the middle and dispel cold, reduce adverse effects, stop vomiting and hiccups, and is an important medicine for treating vomiting and hiccups due to stomach cold.

Treats cold and hiccups, often used with persimmon calyx, codonopsis, ginger, etc.

Treat stomach cold and vomiting, it can be used together with pinellia tuber and ginger;

It can be used together with Atractylodes macrocephala and Amomum villosum to treat vomiting, diarrhea and loss of appetite caused by spleen and stomach deficiency and cold.

2. It is used for cold stomach, wrist and abdomen pain, and can be used together with Corydalis yanhusuo, aconiti lobata, tangerine peel, etc.;

3. Used for impotence due to kidney deficiency and cold uterus: Clove has the function of warming the kidney, assisting yang and curing impotence. It can be used together with aconite, cinnamon, epimedium, etc.

Usage and dosage:

Decoction, 1.5~6g

The New Compendium of Materia Medica says: "It can open the nine orifices and relieve depression.

"Rihuazi Materia Medica" states: "It can cure kidney qi, strengthen yang, and warm the waist and knees.

Contraindications: Do not take if you have fever or internal heat due to yin deficiency. People with hiccups caused by stomach heat or accompanied by thirst, bitter taste and dry mouth should not eat it; people with febrile diseases and internal heat due to yin deficiency should avoid eating it.
