[Original form] Perennial herb. The creeping rhizome is long, with a large spindle-shaped tuber at the tip, and the outer skin is purple-brown with brown or dark brown hairs. The stem is 15 to 95 cm tall, sharply triangular in shape, and tuberous at the base. The leaves are narrow linear, shorter than the culm, 2-5 mm wide; the sheaths are brown and often fissured into fibers. 2-5 leaf-like bracts; long lateral cymes simple or compound, 3-10 radiating branches: spike inflorescence with a top-shaped outline; 3-10 spikelets, linear, 1-3 cm long, with 8-28 flowers: spikelet axis with wider, white transparent wings; scales imbricate, membranous, ovate or oblong-ovate, about 3 mm long, green in the middle, purple-red or reddish-brown on both sides, with 5-7 veins; 3 stamens, linear; style long, 3 stigmas. Nutlets oblong-obovate. The flowering and fruiting period is from May to November.

【Habitat distribution】Growing in fields. It is distributed in most parts of the country.

【Functions and indications】Promote qi circulation, relieve depression, and dispel wind. Treats chest tightness, itchy skin, and carbuncles.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.5 to 1 liang. For external use: mash and apply.
