[Source] This product is the dried rhizome of Panax japonicus CA Mey. var. major (Burk.) [Properties] This product is slightly oblate spherical, conical or irregularly diamond-shaped, occasionally in the shape of beads, with a diameter of 0.5 to 2.8 cm. The surface is brown or yellowish brown, with obvious wart-like protrusions and wrinkles, occasionally with round sunken stem scars, and some have thin internodes remaining on one or both sides. It is hard, with an uneven cross section, pale yellowish white and powdery. It has a faint smell, tastes bitter and slightly sweet, and will sting the throat when chewed.
