[Source] It is the whole herb of Scutellaria baicalensis, a plant of the Lamiaceae family. Harvest in spring and summer, wash and dry.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 15 to 23 cm high. The root branches are thinner. The stem is erect, quadrangular, and covered with short soft hairs that are closely attached upwards. Leaves are opposite; the lower leaves are ovate-lanceolate, the upper leaves are linear, about 1 to 2.3 cm long, 0.4 cm wide, entire and slightly curled inward, covered with sparse soft hairs on both sides, and densely covered with concave glandular dots on the lower side. Flowers are borne in pairs in the axillary, arranged in racemes; flowers are blue-purple, lip-shaped, 1.2 to 1.7 cm long, with the tube genu bent forward near the base, and the middle lobe of the lower lip is oval; stamens 4, 2 strong. Nuts, very small.

[Habitat distribution] Growing on barren slopes, grasslands or beside ditches. Distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan and other places.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, slightly spicy, cool.

【Functions and indications】Detoxification and swelling reduction. Treat carbuncle, swelling, scabies, and tooth decay.

[Additional prescription] ① For treating carbuncle, swelling, scabies, leprosy and ringworm: 1 to 3 qian of Scutellaria barbata. Decoction in water.
