[Other names] Chu Fu Zi, Fu Fu root (Yinshi Zhengyao).

[Source] It is the root of the Chenopodiaceae plant. Harvested in autumn.

[Original form] Caraway, also known as sugar radish.

[Habitat distribution] It is widely cultivated in my country, especially in Northeast China and Inner Mongolia.

[Chemical composition] Contains betaine 0.52-0.70%; sugar 19-20%, mainly sucrose, with small amounts of glucose, fructose and raffinose; also contains pentosan, pectin, cellulose and starch. In addition, it contains a variety of amino acids, organic acids, water-soluble vitamins, etc.

[Pharmacological action] The root has the effect of regulating menstruation. Its active ingredient is called betaine, which may be betaine. It is non-toxic to livestock; but under certain conditions (such as after being infected by various fungal cancers), it contains more nitrite or nitrate. The leaves contain oxalic acid and potassium salts, and may also produce cyanic acid, which can sometimes cause poisoning when eaten by livestock (such as pigs). The whole herb is effective against cat roundworms. It does not contain rutin and has no antibacterial effect.
