[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Anemone japonica, a plant of the Gentianaceae family.

[Original form] Perennial aquatic plant. Stem submerged, cylindrical. The leaves float on the water; the petiole is 1-2cm long, the leaves are nearly leathery, broadly ovate or nearly circular, 3-18cm long, with a cordate base, densely glandular below, and entire margin; with inconspicuous palmate veins. Flowers are numerous, clustered at nodes, pedicels are slender, 3-5cm long; calyx is 3-6mm long, 5-lobed to base, lobes are oblong to lanceolate; corolla is radial, white, yellow at base, 7-12mm long, split to near base, corolla tube is short, with 5 bundles of long soft hairs, lobes are ovate-elliptical, ventral surface is densely covered with tassel-like soft hairs; stamens are 5, attached to corolla tube, alternate with lobes, anthers are arrow-shaped; ovary is conical, sessile, about 2mm long, style is strong, stigma is 2-lobed, lobes are triangular, glands are 5, attached to base of ovary. Capsule is oval, 3-5mm long. Seeds nearly spherical, swollen. Flowering and fruiting period is August to October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in areas with an altitude of 50-1600m.

【Properties】 Identification: The whole plant is wrinkled, smooth and hairless. The stem is cylindrical, unbranched, shaped like a petiole, with a single leaf at the tip. The leaves are nearly round, 3-11 cm long, deeply cordate at the base, and entire; leathery. It has a faint smell and a spicy taste.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet; slightly bitter; cold

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and promotes diuresis; promotes the production of body fluids and nourishes the stomach. Mainly for short and dark urine; dry mouth; thirst

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 10-15g.
