[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Paspalum distachyon, a plant of the Poaceae family.

[Original form] Paspalum distichum is a perennial herb. The stolons run horizontally on the ground, are sturdy, can reach 1m in length, are flattened and have stripes, and the nodes are densely hairy; the flower branches are 20-60cm high. The leaf sheath is loose, with ridges on the back and usually ciliated on the upper part of the margin; the ligule is membranous, 1-1.5mm long; the leaf blade is flat, thin, needle-shaped, 3-15cm long, 2-6mm wide, and glabrous. There are two racemes, opposite, 2-6cm long; the rachis is 1.5-2mm wide; the spikelets are arranged in two rows, obovate-oblong, 3-3.5mm long, with an acute apex and sparsely pubescent; the first glume is absent or tiny, the second glume is adnately pubescent, with a distinct midrib; the first lemma has 3-5 veins, usually glabrous, with a pointed apex, the second lemma is herbaceous, as long as the spikelet, yellow-green, with a pointed apex and covered with hairs. The grains are oval, grey, with a few fine hairs at the tip, and are about 2.5 mm long. Flowering and fruiting period is from May to September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows beside fields, roadsides and water.

【Meridian】 Liver meridian

【Functions and indications】Promote blood circulation and detoxify; dispel wind and dampness. Mainly used for swelling and pain caused by falls; fractures and tendon injuries; rheumatic pain; phlegm and fire; sores

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water or wine, 10-15g; or make into powder. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application; or grind it into powder and apply.
