[Original form] An upright shrub, 1 to 2 meters high. Stems and branches covered with scattered, spreading long coarse hairs. The leaves are opposite, ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate, 10-14 cm long, 2.5-5 cm wide, with acuminate tip, rounded or obtuse base, 5 main veins, green and bald above, often red below, with scattered, compressed, sparse and long hairs on the veins. The flowers are large, 1 to 3 flowers grow on the branches, with a diameter of 7 to 8 cm and purple-red; the calyx tube is covered with long and hard bristles, the lobes are linear-lanceolate, much shorter than the calyx tube, and have additional lobes of equal size; there are 5 petals; and 10 stamens. The fruit is cup-shaped with long, hard, red, coarse hairs. Flowering period is May.
