Herbs, 5-25m tall. The whole plant is red to orange-yellow; the rhizome is tuberous, often branched, 2-3.5cm in diameter, with longitudinal stripes on the surface, densely covered with small granular tubercles, and sparsely covered with grayish-white star-shaped lenticels. The flower stem is dark red, 2.8-8cm long; there are 4-12 scaly bracts, which are ovate-oblong, spirally arranged at the lower part of the flower stem and alternate at the upper part, with slightly rounded tips.
