[Source] It is the rhizome and root of the edible Aralia dasyphylla of the Araliaceae family.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 1 to 2 meters high. The rhizome is thick and horizontal, with many cylindrical roots scattered below the rhizome. The stem has longitudinal grooves and many branches. The old branches are almost glabrous, while the young branches are sparsely covered with short soft hairs. Leaves are alternate, 2-3 times pinnate, up to 30-40 cm long, with stipules; leaflets are petiolate, 1-8 cm long, with the petiolules at the top being longer; leaflets are 9B-shaped or heart-shaped, 4-12 cm long, 2-9 cm wide, acuminate at the apex, rounded or kidney-shaped at the base, serrated or doubly serrated at the margin, and sparsely pubescent on both sides. The paniculate compound umbels are terminal or axillary, with a peduncle 4.6 to 11 cm long and covered with short soft hairs; bracts or bracteoles are present or absent; each umbel has about 20 to 35 flowers; calyx is cup-shaped, with 5 teeth at the apex, and the lobes are triangular; there are 6 petals. White or light yellow, oval, slightly pointed at the tip; 5 stamens, very short filaments; ovary inferior, style about half the length of the stamens, stigma 5-lobed. The berries are spherical, 2 to 3 mm long. 6 seeds. The flowering period is July. The fruiting period is from September to October.

【Habitat distribution】Grows in mountains. Distributed in Hebei, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Yunnan and other places.

【Nature and flavor】 "Compendium of Materia Medica": "pungent, warm, non-toxic."

【Functions and indications】 ① "Compendium of Materia Medica": "It can dispel wind and regulate blood, and can be taken with decoction of wine; for sprains and sprains of hands and feet, it can be washed with decoction of schizonepeta and scallion white."

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 2 to 4 qian. For external use: decoct in water and wash.

[Additional prescription] For treating migraine: 4 qian of Chinese angelica, 3 qian of mistletoe, 2 qian of astragalus, 2 qian of siler, and 1 cup of bamboo juice. Decoction in water. (Hunan Pharmacopoeia)
