Many people in our daily life know the effects of Houttuynia cordata. It can reduce inflammation and fight infection, and is most common in people's homes in the south. In some areas, local people like to call it "Zhe Er Gen", and it is the most common dish on the table.

When Houttuynia cordata was first discovered, it was just a common wild vegetable. Later, by chance, a man ate Houttuynia cordata and created a story that has been passed down through the ages. This man was King Gou Jian of Yue.

For nineteen years, I have been tired of tasting

Game dishes should contain fragrance.

The spring breeze brings new buds.

I would like to pick some green flowers to present to the King of Yue.

This is a poem titled "Ode to Houttuynia" by Wang Shipeng. Legend has it that in the first year after Gou Jian returned to his country, the Kingdom of Yue encountered a rare famine and the people had no food to eat. In order to help his countrymen overcome the difficulties, Gou Jian personally climbed over mountains and crossed rivers to look for edible wild vegetables. After being poisoned by tasting wild vegetables three times, Gou Jian finally discovered an edible wild vegetable that had a particularly strong growth ability. It would always grow again after being cut, endlessly. As a result, the people of Yue State survived the crisis by relying on this small wild vegetable. In this story, Gou Jian's series of deeds to strive for strength, in addition to sleeping on firewood and tasting gall, also included picking and eating wild plants. The Houttuynia cordata mentioned in the poem is the Houttuynia cordata in traditional Chinese medicine.
