[Source] It is the root of Gaultheria yunnanensis, a plant of the Ericaceae family . Dig up in September and October, used fresh or sun-dried.

[Habitat distribution] Produced in Sichuan, Guizhou and other places.

[Properties] The roots are dry, curved and branched, quite long, and the thick ones can reach 2 cm in diameter. The appearance is also brown, the dark cork is very easy to peel off, and the inside is lighter in color; there are scattered fine roots, about 1 mm thick. It is hard and brittle, easy to break; the cross section is grayish yellow, with obvious rays and dense in nature. The smell is fragrant.

[Nature and flavor] "Classification of Herbal Properties": "pungent, warm."

[Functions and indications] Treat stomach cold pain, rheumatic pain in the muscles and bones, athlete's foot, vomiting blood due to overwork, and injuries from falls.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 5 to 8 qian; or soaked in wine. For external use: decoct in water and wash.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat rheumatic joint pain: 1 liang of Radix Pennisetum, 5 qian of Cyperus rotundus, 1 qian of Radix Paeoniae Alba, and 5 qian of Achyranthes bidentata. Soak two kilograms of wine. Take about one or two grams each time; and use the stems and leaves of the fragrant grass, ginger, and onions to boil water for external washing.
