[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole plant or leaves of Malus sinensis of the Melastomataceae family.

【Original form】 Shrub, 60-100cm high. The stem is round, the branchlets are slightly quadrangular, covered with stellate hairs when young, gradually becoming glabrous or covered with sparse, fine hairs. Leaves opposite; petiole 5-20mm long; leaf blade hard papery, lanceolate to ovate or elliptic, 5-10cm long, 2-5cm wide, apex acuminate or obtuse, base cuneate or very obtuse, nearly entire or with sparse shallow serrations, covered with stellate hairs on both sides when young, gradually becoming hairless later; basal veins 5, dorsal surface raised, lateral veins and veinlets not obvious. The inflorescence is terminal, with 5-20 flowers; bracts fall off early, pedicels are 5-8mm long, and are more or less pubescent; flowers are 4-parted, calyx is campanulate-funnel-shaped, about 6mm long, with 4 edges, sometimes more or less stellate hairs, and the lobes are very shallow and crenate; petals are pink to purple, oblong, with acute tip, one side oblique, about 1cm long and about 6mm wide; 4 stamens are long and 4 are short, the longer one is about 1.6cm long, anthers are lanceolate, the connective degenerates into a short stalk, the shorter one is about 1cm long, with tubercles at the base of anthers, and the connective degenerates into a short spur; ovary is semi-inferior, ovoid-globose, and the tip is pubescent. The capsule is nearly spherical and enclosed by a persistent calyx with 4 edges and a truncate tip. The sepals are about 7 mm in diameter. The flowering period is June-July, and the fruiting period is August-October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in valleys at an altitude of 400-1200m, under forests on hillsides, on shady and damp roadsides, in grass beside ditches, or on rocky soil.

[Properties] Property identification: The whole plant is mostly wrinkled, 60-100cm long, and hairless. The stem is slender, cylindrical, 1-1.8cm in diameter, reddish brown, and has longitudinal wrinkles on the epidermis. The leaves are opposite, mostly wrinkled and broken, and when unfolded they are elliptical or ovate-elliptical, slightly skewed, 7.8-11.2cm long, 3.2-6.6cm wide, with shallowly wavy edges and a few fine serrations, 3-5 main veins, and petioles 5-20mm long with swollen petiole ends. The cymes are terminal, sometimes arranged in panicles; the calyx tube is nearly bell-shaped, with 4 broad and short lobes; there are 4 petals, which are nearly elliptical and purple-brown.
